Großer Erfolg für Künstler:innen von Universal Music beim OPUS KLASSIK 2021
Berlin, am 10. Oktober 2021. In gleich sieben von 25 Kategorien wurden Künstler:innen der renommierten UNIVERSAL-MUSIC-Label Deutsche Grammophon und Decca Classics sowie des langfristigen Labelpartners ECM am heutigen Abend mit einem OPUS KLASSIK gekrönt. Die diesjährige Preisverleihung, moderiert von der Schauspielerin und Fernsehmoderatorin Désirée Nosbusch, fand im Konzerthaus Berlin statt. In einem unterhaltsamen, hochkarätigen Programm waren unter anderem die Preisträger Daniil Trifonov und Daniel Hope zu erleben.
Die Vielfalt der Klassik spiegelte sich in den Auszeichnungen wider. Daniil Trifonov wurde Instrumentalist des Jahres/Klavier für Silver Age, seinem Album mit Musik von Skrjabin, Strawinsky und Prokofjew, während der Weltstar Lang Lang – über Video zugeschaltet – für seine Aufnahme der Goldberg-Variationen den Bestseller des Jahres entgegennahm. Yuja Wang holte den Hattrick für die Pianist:innen von Deutsche Grammophon. Als Solistin von John Adams’ Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? wurde sie mit der Konzerteinspielung des Jahres geehrt.
Den Sonderpreis der Jury für besondere Leistungen erhielt Daniel Hope für sein Format Hope@Home. Mit seinem täglichen Livestream auf ARTE sei es ihm gelungen, »klassische Musik während der Pandemie erlebbar und für ein breiteres Publikum verfügbar zu machen«.
Die Erfolgsserie von Deutsche Grammophon setzte sich fort mit dem Preis Editorische Leistung des Jahres für 450 Years Staatskapelle Berlin – Great Recordings, den Dr. Detlef Giese, Leitender Dramaturg an der Staatsoper Unter den Linden, und Johannes Gleim, Director Heritage des Labels, erhielten.
Der maltesische Tenor Joseph Calleja überzeugte in der Kategorie Klassik ohne Grenzen mit The Magic of Mantovani, das bei Decca Classics erschienen ist, während Jörg Widmann am Melodieinstrument mit der Kammermusikeinspielung des Jahres für seine Interpretation von Brahms’ Klarinettensonaten (ECM) geehrt wurde.

Der OPUS KLASSIK ist Deutschlands wichtigster Preis für klassische Musik. Er zeichnet bemerkenswerte Künstler und Produktionen der Klassik aus und wird ausgelobt vom Verein zur Förderung der Klassischen Musik e.V., in dem Label, Veranstalter, Verlage und Personen der Klassikwelt vertreten sind. Der OPUS KLASSIK ist ein Jury-Preis.
Medienpartner des OPUS KLASSIK ist das ZDF, das die Verleihung ab 22.15 Uhr ausstrahlte.
OPUS KLASSIK 2021: wide-ranging success for Universal Music artists
Berlin, 10 October 2021. Artists signed to Universal Music’s renowned classical labels Deutsche Grammophon and Decca Classics as well as Universal Music distribution partner ECM were honoured in an impressive 7 out of 25 categories at tonight’s OPUS KLASSIK 2021 awards. The prestigious awards ceremony, hosted by actress and television presenter Désirée Nosbusch, was held today at the Konzerthaus Berlin and featured performances from some of today’s finest classical artists, including prize-winners Daniil Trifonov and Daniel Hope.
Classical music’s breadth and diversity were reflected in the awards given to Universal Music artists. Daniil Trifonov received the Instrumentalist of the Year/Piano prize for Silver Age, his album of concertos and solo pieces by Prokofiev, Scriabin and Stravinsky, while global superstar Lang Lang appeared by videolink to accept the Bestseller of the Year award for his recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Yuja Wang made it a hat trick for Deutsche Grammophon pianists, winning the Concerto Recording of the Year/Piano award as soloist in the world premiere recording of John Adams’s concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?.
Daniel Hope accepted the jury’s Special Achievement Award for his Hope@Home initiative. The award citation praised the violinist for the daily series of concerts he livestreamed on ARTE during lockdown, “making classical music tangible and available to a wider audience during the pandemic”.
Deutsche Grammophon’s run of OPUS KLASSIK success continued with the Editorial Achievement of the Year award for 450 Years Staatskapelle Berlin – Great Recordings, presented to Dr Detlef Giese, principal dramaturg at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, and the label’s Director Heritage, Johannes Gleim.
Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja received the Classics Without Limits award for The Magic of Mantovani (Decca Classics), while clarinettist Jörg Widmann took the Chamber Music Recording of the Year for his critically acclaimed readings of Brahms’s Clarinet Sonatas (ECM).

The OPUS KLASSIK is Germany’s most prestigious classical music prize. Designed to honour outstanding artists and recordings, it is awarded by the Verein zur Förderung der Klassischen Musik e.V. (Society for the Promotion of Classical Music), whose members are drawn from record labels, promoters, publishers and other representatives of the classical music world. The OPUS KLASSIK awards are decided by a jury of industry experts.
Tonight’s ceremony was broadcast at 22.15 (CET) by OPUS KLASSIK’s media partner ZDF.
